On March 28th at approx 2000 hrs the Newton Fire and First Aid squad, and Fredon FD were dispatched to route 94 in front of the Newton Memorial Hospital for a single car MVA with the driver being entrapped.
As EMT's assessed the drivers condition, the FD was setting up the Jaws-of-life to assist in removing the driver from the vehicle. The drivers side door was able to be forced open without the Jaws being put to work and the driver was extricated.
Newton First Aid treated the patient and transported him to the hospital landing pad where Atlantic Air 1 was waiting for patient contact. It was later deemed that the patients injuries were not serious enough for a flight to the trauma center and was transported via ambulance.
Assisting on the call was the Fredon Fire Police, who shut down Route 94 between West End Ave and Anderson Hill Road, so emergency crews were able to work safely on the scene.
No other injuries were reported and the accident is under investigation by the Newton Police Department.
